That burns

Watching TV with Maymay and a Special K commercial came on. She pointed at it and said, "Look momma. It's your people."

Me: Those uncoordinated dancing women are my people?

Maymay: Well, you are a woman. You're very uncoordinated, and they are eating.

Now she's rolling on my bed laughing hysterically. I may need some aloe for this burn.

Maymay: Why are the VeggieTales called VeggieTales?

Me: Because they are vegetables. (yep, I'm a smartie)

Maymay: What about Miss Blueberry? She is a fruit.

Me: um..... (my brain stopped working right about now)

Maymay: They should consider everyone. It's not fun to be left out.

And now she's laying on the couch crying about Miss Blueberry's hurt feelings. I stood in the kitchen crying for way longer than I feel comfortable admitting. It's impossible to stop all the hurts and make everything all better, but just once I want to.

My opinion on vaccines

I die a little each time I hear someone state how they'd rather risk their kid's life than get autism. Acting like autism is the most horrible disease than should be shunned. This is part of the mentality that allows my daughter to be friendless and avoided, and bullied. You don't catch autism like the flu. I'm not going to pretend that it isn't difficult. When she was younger and nonverbal it was the most heart wrenching pain I've ever had. Seeing your child struggle is terrible. The meltdowns, seizures, and each and every milestone that has slowly and painfully been gone through. The loss of friends and family. The aloneness. Watching her struggle through years..YEARS of therapy to get to where she is now, has been both heartbreaking and the most proud of her I could ever be. So, when someone acts like risking the measles is way better than autism, I hurt like it's brand new. Autism sucks. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. And I wouldn't change one thing about my kid. She is the best human I know.

Grammy Awards 2015

It's always interesting watching award shows with Maymay. I felt that you should share the experience with us.

Watching the red carpet coverage for the Grammy Awards, and Maymay is pointing out each inappropriate dress. Loudly. My favorite comment so far: "Why do they all have their boobies hanging out? You don't see the men doing that."

Um...well, she is right.

Haha hahaha......I cant breathe!! She's SCREAMING at the TV..."Those are too big to just have out. That's not right." Thank you Nicki Minaj for wearing an outfit that caused Maymay to go insane.

"Why is she wearing a sparkly robe on the red carpet? You won't let me wear my robe to the store but she gets to wear one to the Grammys? I need to be famous." Trying to explain that only Kim Kardashian could get away with that outfit was pretty impossible. Seems I might need to get Maymay a sparkly robe.

Maymay is a fan of Ariana Grande. I know this because she shushed me when I asked if she wanted a snack. "Don't talk when she's singing. It might bother her."

I said Gwen Stefani looks incredibly thin, and needs to eat a cookie. Maymay asked, "Why does she gets a cookie? I like cookies. I should have a cookie. Or three. Yeah. Three."

Just had the most important conversation with Maymay thanks to the Grammys. I'm uncomfortable and glad for it. We talked about what domestic violence is, and then had an extremely necessary conversation. Every parent should talk to their kids, and it isn't easy. It is difficult and I cried and struggled through it. I'm grateful for the forced opportunity.
