Watching a Disney show with Maymay. The mom makes a Christmas wish for a hot fireman and GETS HER WISH.

Maymay: Momma just make a wish and you'll have a boyfriend.

Me: Yeah, this is coming from the channel that has a talking dog that writes a blog. That doesn't work in the real world.

Maymay: <deep sigh> And this is why your single.

Yeah...thanks Disney.

We were watching the halftime show during the Cowboys game. I look over at Maymay and notice she's crying.

me: Hon, what's wrong?

Maymay: I feel so bad for Selena.

Me: Um....why?

Maymay: She was made to work on Thanksgiving.

Me: Hon. It's an honor to be chosen to perform during the halftime at a big game like today. I'm sure she was excited.

Maymay: She should be home eating turkey. They made her work. It isn't fair.

Yeah, the conversation hasn't stopped yet. I'm pretty sure I promised to send her a thank you card or something. <sigh>

The shortest day of the year

This conversation took place at 5:15 am.  Yeah, getting hit with Maymay questions BEFORE I have coffee is difficult.

Maymay: Why is there only one shortest day of the year?

Me: Can this wait until I have coffee? (I began the long stumble to the coffee pot)

Maymay:  My teacher told me that on December 21 it will be the shortest day of the whole year.  But why?  Why is there only one?

Me: Because there can only be one shortest day.  The other days lead up to it, but there can only be one.  It's like when there is a contest.  There can only be one winner.  (I can smell the coffee and now I'm feeling a bit more awake and confident I have ended this particular discussion.)

Maymay: (She just stared at me for a good minute.  I could almost see the thought process at work.  I saw the exact moment when she knew what she was going to say.  She let out a long deep sigh, looked at me and said...)  Momma.  How did you become a teacher?  (Then she walked away shaking her head.)

Good to know I can completely disappoint my child in three minutes flat.

Maymay and the snow angel

Maymay: Is it really gonna snow today?

Me: Sorta.  Not real snow, just some flurries.

Maymay: Why isn't that for real?

Me: No hon, it is real.  I meant that it won't be much snow at all.  What little we get won't really stick and will melt fast.

Maymay: Can I make a snow angel?

Me: No hon.  There won't be enough snow for that.  You wouldn't be able to see the snow angel at all.

Maymay: But God would.

Me: um.....hon?  Is the cat asleep on you?

Maymay:  shhhhhh.  The cat is asleep.

Me:  That's all I asked hon.  He's laying on you kinda weird.

Maymay:  He's warm like a blanket and purring.  He's making my heart smile.

Mine too kiddo.  Mine too.

Maymay has been asking....BEGGING....me to take her to the drive-in tonight. I explained it's cold outside and going to get much colder later. She said we can bring blankets. After hearing her beg and plead for most of the morning, I decided it was time to put my foot down and just say NO.

So, we're going to the drive-in tonight.

Maymay: Wanna play a game?

Me: Sure. What game?

Maymay: A new game.  I just made it.

Me: Really?  Ok.  How do we play?

Maymay:  I will tell you as we play. (She hits my nose.)  I WIN!

Me: Wait a minute.  We are playing a game that you just made up and I don't know the rules?

Maymay: (nodding her head) Uh huh.

Me: How am I supposed to play?

Maymay:  I'll just tell you if you ever win.

Me:  Are you going to keep changing the rules so you win?

Maymay: (laughing) Of course Mommy.  That's the point of the game.

Well of course it is.
