Tried going grocery shopping today and Maymay had a massive panic attack in the tea aisle. It had to appear she was losing her shit over which tea to buy.

It took several hours, but she's calmed down. Bad news...I still need to go grocery shopping.

Maymay was given tickets to check out an interesting theme park, Diggerland USA. It's a construction themed park, with HUGE tractors you actually get to play on!
Diggerland USA is located off Cooper Road via Route 73 in West Berlin, NJ. They are about 20 minutes from Philadelphia and an hour or so from New York. The actual address is:
Diggerland USA
100 Pinedge Drive
West Berlin, NJ 08091

Although it was cold, we picked a perfect day to go. The park wasn't crowded at all! Maymay was instantly excited to see all the tractors and large equipment. The extremely friendly girl at admissions gave Maymay a full rundown on the park, and explained the rides. She let Maymay ask a bizillion questions, and didn't let us walk away until all her questions were asked!
Maymay was beyond excited to see and touch the tractors! The minute she saw this, she ran over and tried to climb on it.
Maymay had the BEST time, and Jim helped make that possible. This guy is fantastic!
This car was a bit too small, but she really didn't care!
Maymay liked this tractor. She got to drive an obstacle course and only "wrecked" once.
This was Maymay's favorite tractor. She loved moving dirt from one pile to another.
Yep, she was a very happy camper.

Maymay was given tickets to check out a cool indoor water park. It has a lazy river, slides, tubes, and the Flow Rider, which is a surfing simulator. It was too cold for us to check out, but there is also a huge outdoor area to the water park. They have plenty of beach chairs, but you can rent a cabana for your group. The most impressive part of the water park is the consideration to special needs guests. They have special days set up for only special needs guests - at a reduced cost! Yep, very impressive!

LOVE the Sambulance!
Maymay LOVED the giant nutcracker! They had cute decorations everywhere.
Maymay is a huge fan of a lazy river. This one made her happy.
Happy kiddo. 'Nuff said.
Gotta love the giant lifeguard chair.

273rd Anniversary of the Continental Army March In

On December 19, 1777 General George Washington's Continental Army "marched in" to Valley Forge to set up winter quarters. This annual event commemorates their arrival and determination to persevere against insurmountable hardship and difficult conditions during their 6-month encampment. Join us this December 19th and experience an evening in Valley Forge. Take a candle-lit guided walk to the Muhlenberg Brigade huts where you'll encounter a living continental camp. Warm up in the Visitor Center with 18th century music, refreshments, and more!

Maymay likes history, so I thought this would be fun to check out. Bonus...it was FREE. The reenactment was fantastic! All the actors and volunteers were perfectly fine with Maymay's million questions. She liked checking out the artifacts and touring the encampment. She was able to go into each hut and touch anything and everything. Maymay sat in one hut by the roaring fire and asked at least a hundred questions to the extremely patient soldier. She was even willing to try the 18th century chocolate (hated it) and the wassail (LOVED it). We also got to hear George Washington speak to the soldiers. Maymay had a great time and said the cold just made it feel real.

You know you're an autism parent when...

  • It takes a lot to shock you or surprise you or freak you out. But it takes very little, like appropriate eye contact, an initiated conversation or an ‘I love you, Mom’ to melt your heart.
  • Letting your autistic child pick up the phone when telemarketers call just feels right.
  • You’ve heard “But he looks so normal. Are you sure he has #autism ?” (more than once)
  • You cringe when your speaking with someone who says they know about Autism because they met SOMEONE WITH IT ONCE
  • You’ve spent a lot of time debating ‘has autism’ vs ‘autistic’ and still feel comfortable with neither.
  • You celebrate the simple things, like a peaceful car ride or a full night’s sleep.
  • Your child has taught you greater patience, understanding, empathy & compassion than you ever thought possible.
  • Your twitter friends understand you and your child better than your local friends and family.
  • Your day changes from good to bad and back again so fast your not sure what type of day you had later on when someone asks.
  • You are constantly questioning …”Am I a good enough parent for such a special person? How do I get better?”
  • The little triumphs and progress mean the most.
  • Your kids say the darndest things because they use words they've memorized and don't know what they mean.
  • Your child makes their own loud noise to drown out the quiet noise that they can't filter.
  • Your child is bullied and doesn't really understand it as kids being mean.
  • Your child wears earmuffs or headphones in the summer.
  • You stopped attending church regularly because it was just too much to handle.
