Maymay and the Philadelphia Eagles

Today was the big day!
Maymay got to go to her game.  Her anxiety level was way higher than usual, but her excitement pushed her through.  She had her outfit all picked out and was ready in minutes!  She did spend a few extra minutes getting Berry ready.  It was important that they both had on their Eagles gear.

Traffic was heavy and I thought I planned well.  I figured it would take double the normal time to get to Philly.  I got to Philly well within my planned time and was feeling pretty proud of myself.  Matter of fact, I navigated the streets in Philly like a pro!  Of course I had no idea it would take almost an hour and an act of congress to get past security, but we made it!

After we finally made it in the press entrance, our Eagles contact, Holly, was there and immediately helped us!  She assured Maymay that we had plenty of time to be on the field, and then ushered us directly to the field.  I wish I could describe the look on Maymay's face as she walked on the field.  It was pure joy.  She was a bit upset she wasn't allowed to run on the field with the players, but she got over pretty quick.

As we were watching the players run through their drills, Holly from the Eagles organization, came and grabbed us for a special treat.  Maymay got to meet the Eagles cheerleaders director Barbara Zaun!  She introduced Maymay to some of the cheerleaders...and a couple recognized her and made a big deal of it!  After all the pictures were taken, (and you know I had to sneak some in for myself) Barbara told Maymay that they will be sending her a pair of official Eagles PINK pom-poms!!  Yup...Maymay started spinning in circles she was so happy!  A couple of people from the press asked if they could talk with us.  They took her picture a billion times, asked a million questions, all while my kiddo happily spun in circles.

Maymay went out of her mind with excitement when the Eagles took the field.  We were sitting as close to the field as someone could be without actually being on the field.  It was the most amazing experience and she was enjoying each and every second of it. (So was I!)

Maymay at halftime with one of the squads.  She really wanted to get a picture with all the girls, but was beyond thrilled that she got to come on the field and talk with the cheerleaders!  The photographer was funny and friendly and very understanding that her momma was going to take a picture too!

There is no way to list all the amazing things that occurred throughout the day.  The fellow fans that were supportive and kind to Maymay, the usher who asked us if we wanted to sneak back on the field, the free food, the press being so kind....did I mention the free food?  Overall, it was a wonderful day and I cannot thank the Philadelphia Eagles enough for their kindness.  As a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan, I'm PROUD to admit I love the Philadelphia Eagles organization right now.

They earned a few new fans.

I get absurdly excited when a package arrives.  Always have, always will.  I must have passed that trait on to my little nugget, because when the FedEx package arrived you would've thought Ed McMahon was at our door with a big 'ole check.

Well, Maymay happily discovered that her parking pass for the Eagles vs Cowboys game had arrived.  Saying that she is excited is a complete understatement.  She danced around the living room singing.  Yeah, I'd say she was pretty excited.

As I tucked her in and said goodnight, she looked up at me and simply said, I really get to go.  I smiled at her and nodded my head, since I would've started crying if I said anything.  She closed her eyes and smiled and just sighed.

And then I finally did cry.

If you're reading this I'm going to assume you've read past posts about Maymay and her LOVE for the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders.  She works hard each year to raise money for CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) where she's been a patient for much of her life, to support the autism program.  Her favorite place to go is the Huddle up for Autism event that CHOP and CAR (Center for Autism Research) host each year.

Last year, thanks to the most generous and wondrous people alive, Maymay was the highest fundraiser!  Her reward was to get to meet the Eagles cheerleaders at the Huddle up for Autism, and get autographs.  Again, I know you're aware of how happy she was that Nate Allen remembered her, and how sweet most of the cheerleaders were to her.

Well....there was an additional prize for being the highest fundraiser.  Maymay gets to go to an actual game!  She choose October 20th so I could see my team play too!  (Yup, she's a sweetheart.)  The representative from the Eagles has been so kind getting everything set up for Maymay's big day!  She even has a special surprise for Maymay that I'd bet includes the cheerleaders!

I wanted to re-thank each and everyone of you that has made this possible.  Maymay has had a few setbacks, and this has been motivating her to get better.  I'm grateful to you for giving my daughter this opportunity and for giving her a reason to smile.

Thank you.
