Based on the 1820 event, a whaling ship is preyed upon by a giant whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home.

The story that inspired Moby Dick. I didn't even know that this really happened.Or that white whales ever existed.I liked the movie though.I wonder which part inspired Captain Ahab's character in the book.I can't decide if it was the Captain or the First Mate.I really liked Chris Hemsworth but his character seemed more like the Captain than the First Mate. I also believe that the whale would had to be smart to attack and follow the crew. What I don't understand is why didn't they kill it when they had the chance? It was what they were trying to go for  wasn't it.?I think I would have been just as scared as the crew was if a whale attacked.Although in the book Moby Dick, didn't Ahab have his leg bitten of by the whale? That didn't happen in this story.I felt bad that one guy killed himself before the crew was rescued or got to shore.I think the best part was when Owen Chase got to meet his little girl even though he wasn't there for the birth. The other thing I didn't get is why they didn't make Owen Chase a Captain.
