I thought this was a very cute movie.  It's about a woman in Ireland whose son was taken away from her when she was a teenager and wants to find him.  It starts when she is a teenager at a fair and has sex with a boy.  She is then pregnant and her family threw her out so she went to the abbey to live and the sisters of the abbey are very mad because of it and she has sinned.  She is then put in the laundry room to work because it is hard work and the sisters want Philomena to be punished and that's where all the girls who did the same thing have to work.  After they did the laundry they were allowed to see their kids for one hour a day.  The abbey then sold Philomena's son with her best friends daughter and for fifty years she tries to find him.  Philomena's daughter talks to a journalist about doing a human interest story on Philomena and at first he says no but then changes his mind.  So the journalist finds out her son was sold to an American family so he and Philomena go to America to find her son.  Philomena is a really nice person and believes in God.  She treats everybody she meets very nice and they all like her.  The journalist finds out her son is dead and died eight years ago.  He tells Philomena and she is very sad but decided to stay and find out if he ever thought about her.  The journalist finds out he wore a pin on his jacket that was about Ireland.  The first two people they talk to tells her no he never talked about her or Ireland so she wants to give up but the journalist decides they should go to his boyfriend Pete's house even though he doesn't want to talk to Philomena.  He lets her in after she yells at him.  They watch a video of her son and in that video they notice that he visited the abbey.  Philomena and the journalist find out that the nuns have lied to them this whole time.  Philomena is happy to know her son had been looking for her too but the sisters lied to both of them.  They return to Ireland and go back to the abbey.  The journalist goes to the private quarters and yells at the nun who lied.  Philomena came in and forgave her.  Another nun took them outside to her son's grave.

I am confused.  I thought nuns were people who followed all God's rules.  Why would they lie to someone?  That isn't what God wants.  They get mad at young girls that sin but they are sinning too.  I don't like this.

5 stars.
