Monsters University

This was the most laid back screening that we've ever had the pleasure of attending! Maymay sat and happily played with her Sully doll until the movie started, and the people we met were FANTASTIC.  I got to have a THIRTY minute conversation about Star Wars!  Yup....I was a happy camper.

I'm not a huge fan of prequels.  Prequels have a tendency to tell stories that never needed telling.  Stories start at a certain place for a very good reason; that’s where the interesting stuff begins.  Monsters University made me forget I hate prequels.

I'm really glad we had the opportunity to see this movie.  It was entertaining and cute with a slightly dark side.  I liked the back story on a few of the monsters, and was pretty happy with the way Disney/Pixar showed how Mike and Sully began their friendship.  The college kids in the theater liked it as much as the little kids.  Maybe more.  You won't need to pay a teenager to take your kids to this movie.  Not only is it worth seeing, it's also worth buying when it comes out on DVD.

Running into friends after the screening....priceless!

Sometimes in the very midst of chaos you discover the absolute beauty of mankind.

What started off as a wonderful screening turned ugly fast.  I'm not going to discuss the ugly side.  There is no need.  I do want to publicly acknowledge a few people.  First, the representatives from Allied that went out of their way to try to fix an already bad situation: Gary, Kayla and Abby.  You may not have "fixed" the situation or made everyone happy, but you did your best and you didn't stoop to rudeness.  You remained friendly and apologetic the entire time.  Not many people would've continued to hold their head high and keep trying in the middle of hell breaking loose and being screamed at.  I appreciate you all.  Second, Matt from Allied - you were my personal hero of the evening.  You legitimately rescued me from the crowd when I ventured out for popcorn and helped me as I was getting pushed and screamed at.  You are far braver than I am and I'm beyond glad of your calm way of handling a terrifying situation.  Finally, Paul Perkins the film critic from King Room Entertainment.  You looked after Maymay and made sure she was treated fairly and not shoved aside.  You're a hell of a good guy, and I cannot thank you enough.

The geek in me is BEYOND excited for this screening tonight.  I'm just crossing my fingers that I'm not going to be disappointed.

UPDATE:
I loved this movie.  Don't get me wrong  there are parts of it that were annoying, but overall, I truly loved it.  However, I was NOT a fan of the entire planet Krypton scenes.  It felt far to Avatar with the flying animals, and all the animal-like spacecraft.  Throughout the movie the amount of obvious CGI drove me crazy, and the lens flare was enough to make me want to scream.  LOUDLY.  The whole reboot of the story wasn't exactly my favorite, and it really annoyed me that Lois Lane knew him before he went to work at the Daily Planet.

All that being said....it was action packed, fun, and an enjoyable Superman movie.

Before I can tell you about the screening of This is the End, I need to thank Wired96.5 for the screening passes!  I cannot say enough about the amazingly fun and outgoing group of people that represent their station so beautifully.  Thank you all for always being so fantastic to Maymay and Berry!

Okay, now the movie.  This is NOT a take-your-kids-to-the-movies kind of movie.  This is more along the lines of grab your college and/or drinking buddies kind of movie.  Truthfully, it's just not my type of movie at all.  It's chock full of excessive drinking, drug use, sex, and more F-bombs than could ever be necessary.  It is completely and totally offensive.......and absolutely the funniest movie I've seen in a long time.

Yeah, I gotta admit, I like ridiculously stupid movies once in a while.   Not usually anything with this much drinking and drug use, but occasionally I like a movie with zero redeeming qualities.  This movie most certainly has no redeeming qualities at all.  Nope, none.  That being said, I legitimately laughed loudly several times, and a few times I was almost in tears laughing.  There were moments of comedic greatness, and moments that were uncomfortably funny.  Everyone was good, but my favorite person in the movie is James Franco.  I love him usually, but in this he was stellar.

I can't really say much without giving away why you need to see this movie, but trust me, you do want to see it for the ending alone.  It is freaking awesome.

We're heading to the screening shortly.  I'm assuming this one is going to be crazy, so I'm nervous.  I'll update this post when we get there.

UPDATE:
We got to the screening very early and had some pretty terrific people around us in line.  I'm convinced that most people who attend screenings are pretty awesome.  (Thank you Christine for the popcorn flavoring   Maymay LOVES it!)

Overall this screening was pretty organized, especially since it was very crowded and there were TWO theaters FULL of zombie loving people.  I do have to address the young man that was with Allied-THA, who was so incredibly rude and outright mean to Maymay.  Two of your colleagues were mortified and apologized to us, but you were oblivious to how much your ugliness hurt my daughter.  There is NO reason to ever treat a special needs person like you did, and you should be ashamed.

Now, the good stuff.  The movie was completely and totally bad-ass.  I don't want to give anything away, but I will say it doesn't exactly follow the book.  It is a very well written movie that completely captured my attention immediately and held it to the end.  Matter of fact, I didn't want it to end.

Brad Pitt was perfectly cast as the loving husband and devoted family man who gets thrown into the very pit of zombie madness.  His relationship and devotion to his family made me fall in love immediately and care about what happened to him, while managing to portray a thoughtful tough guy who I'd happily follow through a zombie war.

This is an amazing movie that I'd pay to see again in a heartbeat.  The zombies were scary and properly disgusting.  There were enough funny moments to break up the  terror, which I'm happy to report meant no nightmares for me.  Most of all, it was entirely entertaining movie.  You should see it today....you need to know how to prepare yourself for the actual zombie apocalypse.

Yeah....Brad Pitt came to the screening.  (I'll pause here so you can swoon.)
