I cannot begin to tell you all the amazing things about the promotional crew at Wired 96.5. They are ALWAYS kind and considerate to Maymay. She adores them all so much, but especially gets excited when she gets to see her favorites Colleen and Brittany. We got to meet a new intern last night who was pretty terrific, and Maymay wanted to get a picture with her! Unfortunately my phone got stupid and the picture with Brittney didn't come out! (Yeah, Maymay isn't happy with me.)

Let me just say that I'm pretty sure my ranking in Maymay's list of favorite people has dropped yet again. This was confirmed when my dear little nugget ran from me into the waiting arms of Christine. (AKA flanngirl on our favorite site, Cinemit) I could go on for days about all the wonderfulness that is Christine, but let me just sum it up by saying I adore her. She completely "gets" Maymay and always makes her laugh and smile. Last night Maymay told me that Christine is her favorite screening buddy....other than Berry.

I guess I should say something about the actual movie. This is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. It basically follows the same story line with a few changes here and there. It isn't the worst adaptation, nor is it the best. It just...is.
I did like Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet. She was good and had moments of very good. Douglass Booth was decent as Romeo. He's good looking, but it just felt there was something missing. He didn't seem to have the bravado I associate with Romeo.
I LOVED Paul Giamatti as the friar. This was the best casting and he pulled off the role with ease. He was believable and stole each and every scene he was in. I only wish he were on screen more often. The other outstanding actor in this was Kodi Smit-McPhee as Benvolio. Wow. This kid showed so much emotion and empathy. I honestly hurt for him.
The bad...Tybalt. I hated Ed Westwick's Tybalt tremendously. There was anger, but not much else. Tybalt is so vibrant and full of bravado, anger, petulance, doubt...he is a complex and intriguing character. Sadly, this was not the Tybalt in this movie. Most of the other characters were forgettable, so nothing to add about them.
Overall, it wasn't a huge disappointment. But, I wouldn't recommend it either.
