Eddie the Eagle
I didn’t know a lot about Eddie the Eagle, other than that he was a ski jumper. As I understand it, this movie is pretty loosely based on Eddie's real story, and the end result is about as close to pure and undistilled underdog sports drama as it gets. Despite an almost total lack of any natural sporting ability whatsoever, Eddie is an Olympics geek who wants nothing other than to represent Great Britain in… well, any sport that will have him. This is a movie worth seeing, even if it's not entirely true.
Room
Just watched Room. It's a very well made movie with exceptional acting. However, I'm incredibly conflicted about my feelings and emotions right now. I didn't expect to have flashbacks from my childhood.
I was heavily abused and kept locked in my bedroom for more than a year. I finally escaped and ran away at thirteen. I won't go into details, but it was brutal and took me many years of therapy to decide I wanted to live.
I'm the person I am today because of everything I've survived. I don't reflect on my past normally, but this movie has brought so much to the surface that I'm hurting in a way I haven't in many years.
Even saying all that, I don't regret seeing Room. It is honestly one of the best movies I've seen this year.
