I'm always grateful for the opportunity to screen a movie before it's release date. Maymay takes her reviewing responsibilities very seriously and I enjoy it as well. On top of that, there is the added benefit of seeing the movies for free before anyone else can pay to see it. If I had paid to see this movie I would've left angrier than Ryan Reynolds must be at his agent for suggesting he do this. I'm not saying it's the worst movie I've ever seen, but I'd rather watch Titanic all day than ever see this again.
There were a few decent moments and I even smiled at one part. Mostly I couldn't get past Nicolas Cage as Grug the head cave dude, and Emma Stone as his pain in the butt daughter Eep. By far Nicolas Cage was the toughest to get past. The animators did a great job, the colors are intense and they made the cave family expressive and interesting looking. Eep is also the bustiest cave girl that I've ever seen depicted. Someone seriously had....fun...creating her. The story itself was choppy and odd things were in the movie just to be in the movie. I also have no idea why this movie would be 3D.
Truthfully, it really doesn't matter. It's a kids movie and most kids aren't going to an animated movie for snappy dialogue and a tight script. If you have kids you're probably seeing this. I'm sorry. I'm not sure you're going to get past Nicolas Cage, but if you do, it's sorta cute. I'd personally rather grab a can of turtle wax and buff clean a few droids than see this movie again.
